Posted 06/14/2012 – The team put in Wednesday the 13th at about 7:00 a.m. their time for the long trip to the Aland Islands. This crossing was approximately 25 miles of open water through fog with the wind freshening about two hours into the trip. They landed on a small rocky island around 2:30 in the afternoon, chilled till about 5:00 p.m. and then put back in for another 12 miles. The team finally landing at 8:30 p.m. on Ekero Island, which is part of Aland. They awoke this morning to a beautiful day (see picture below). Thursday’s paddle was only 7 miles, however; the team had to battle high winds and four foot seas. Landed 8:00ish and set up camp for the evening. Friday’s plans are to head towards the capital, about 30 kilometers away.
